Project Description:
The Pump Station located at 108-11 Horace Harding Expressway in Corona, Queens was originally constructed in 1932, with subsequent upgrades completed in 1963, 1992, and 1996. The facility serves the Bowery Bay WRRF drainage area and has a peak flow capacity of 45 MGD.
The reconstruction project includes installation of a new force main and new discharge structure connecting to the 108th Street combined sewer, as well as construction of an interim pump station equipped with temporary controls and power to maintain continuous operation during construction. Additional work includes modifications to existing influent sewers.
The scope also includes installation of a new 800 kW permanent emergency generator with a 1,000-gallon integral fuel tank, along with new electrical infrastructure consisting of motor control centers (MCCs), two Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), panel boards, and two transformer cabinets. A new permanent power feed is being installed by Con Edison.
Further improvements include replacement of all mechanical and electrical equipment, new HVAC systems, and a new odor control system featuring a 12 ft x 8.5 ft dual-bed activated carbon vessel. The project also involves structural rehabilitation of the pump station, installation of six submersible sewage pumps, and a new monorail system to facilitate single-pick equipment removal.
